Discerning Angels
Before I was born into the Kingdom of God as a new creation, I had 3 dreams in 3 consecutive nights.
First dream
On the table was a cup of coffee. There was a dead cockroach in it. Clearly, I saw it. But still, I drank it.
I woke up wondering what it meant, so I asked my wife.
My wife, endowed with revelation, interpreted my dream: the cockroach represented evil. You saw it; you knew that it was wrong, but you still drank it. Your sinful act was deliberate. Not out of ignorance but out of knowledge.
I was taken aback. Her interpretation nailed my secret sin.
Second dream
My 12 siblings clad in black armor engaged in a tournament vs. white knights. After clashing with them, the white knights extracted me from my siblings. Then I saw myself in a place like heaven. I saw people in white garments. There, an angel was talking to me in front of a white building.
Third dream
On a mountain peak, I stood with two men—one a priest, the other possibly a pastor, though I wasn’t certain. Suddenly, a radiant beam of light descended from heaven, enveloping me completely. Then, I heard the voice of God proclaim, “This is my son.” The two men trembled in fear, but I felt no such dread. Instead, my heart overflowed with joy as I stood bathed in divine presence.
Later, I descended the mountain and walked through a quiet village. There, I encountered a religious procession led by Marie—our matchmaker and ninang (godmother). A group of men carried a statue of Santo Niño, and as I pointed at it, I rebuked it. Instantly, a bolt of lightning struck the statue.
The dream then shifted to a battlefield where Russian and American soldiers faced each other from their foxholes, locked in conflict. But in a sudden twist, the geopolitical tides turned—Russia and America became allies.
I had the third dream on a Friday night. The following day, feeling divinely inspired to read the Bible, I began with the book of Samuel and continued through 2 Kings. I was in awe of how God speaks, revealing His will and His ways—how He communicated with Samuel, King David, King Solomon, and the prophets. After reading about King Solomon’s dream, I prayed for what he had asked of God: wisdom.
I spent the entire day immersed in Scripture, reflecting on how God reveals Himself and the miracles that follow obedience.
Before going to bed, I told my wife, “Tomorrow, we’ll attend ACCF,” a church in Ali Mall, Cubao.
The church was packed—so full that some people had to stand in the back. The service began with praise and worship, filling the air with joy. The congregation sang, clapped, and swayed in harmony with the music. As the melodies transitioned from praise to deep worship, my heart was profoundly moved. Then, the singing shifted into a heavenly chorus—a symphony of tongues, rising like the roar of many waters.
In that sacred moment, I was overwhelmed by the boundless love of God the Father—a love so vast it shattered my sin-hardened heart. Tears poured from my eyes as spiritual revelation unfolded before me. My eyes were opened: A mighty angel in radiant white stood at the stage, while countless others lined the auditorium, joining the congregation in worship. Their unified voices thundered like living waters flowing from God’s throne.
Then, another vision appeared—a scene of my life playing like a documentary, revealing my sins from childhood onward. Overcome with sorrow, I wept and repented before the Lord. But after moments of brokenness, a divine exchange took place. Grief turned to joy, darkness to light, as I was welcomed into God’s Kingdom—not with mourning, but with victorious celebration.
Angels
During the prophetic movement of the 1990s, angelic visitations were not uncommon.
On one memorable occasion, a young boy oppressed by a demonic presence was set free through divine intervention—an encounter I witnessed in a vision.
The boy’s parents, desperate for help, had reached out to Pastor Dante Veluz, pleading with him to come and pray for their son, whose behavior strongly suggested demonization.
Before visiting, Pastor Dante came to me. After briefly explaining the situation, I emphasized that we needed to seek God’s word and guidance first. As Pastor Dante prayed and rebuked the evil spirit, a vision unfolded before me:
A mighty angel, robed in white, descended from heaven. Without a sword or weapon, he simply commanded the demon to leave—and it obeyed.
When we arrived at the boy’s home, his mother greeted us at the gate with joyful relief: “He’s well!” The deliverance had already taken place.
Angel with A sword
At a spiritual warfare seminar hosted by the Assemblies of God church in Mindanao, during praise and worship, I felt a sharp pain in my right foot. I asked the Lord to open my spiritual eyes and show me what it meant.
Standing in front of me was an angel with a sword. Its’ tip was pressed on my right foot. I felt the sharp pain. The angel told me that a wife in the congregation was stepping on her husband’s foot, overruling him.
A couple came forward. The wife confessed.
Angels with swords are biblically portrayed as agents of death or as protectors.
A cherubim with a flaming sword guarding the way to the Tree of Life. Gen.3:24
An angel with a drawn sword who identified himself as the “commander of the Lord’s army” appeared to Joshua before the battle at Jericho. Joshua 5:13-15
An angel with a sword opposed Balaam from cursing Israel.
Angels Protect Us From Harm
I believed unseen angels were protecting me and others with me from harm.
First Incident: A poltergeist, which I and my family experienced when I was 10, was the talk of our town. As Catholics, we believed it was a ghost as defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
When I became a Bible-believing Christian in Christ, I came to realize that the poltergeist was not a ghost but a demon.
It did not harm me nor any of my family. He made noises on our walls at night and threw stones and horse manure during the day only when we were not around. He did not touch us. I surmised God must have limited him. And I like to think that an angel was holding him at bay.
The poltergeist-demon demonized our housemaid, a young lady hired by my mom from another province in the Visayas. It came with her. When she left us, the demon also left us. It went with her. After several years, she came to visit us. She was doing well. No more demon was demonizing her.
Second Incident: I was 18, an aggressive driver, driving fast along MacArthur Highway on our way to Manila. With me were my parents and relatives. A Mustang sedan overtook me, and I felt challenged to overtake it. So I drove faster. Ahead of me was a blind curve, but it was not sharp, so I only slowed down a bit. At the curve, the Mustang and other cars were at a full stop. The road was being repaired. I stepped on my brakes, but our momentum was too fast to stop immediately. My aunt, who was the only one awake among my passengers, screamed. She was terrified seeing that we were going to hit the Mustang. But a miracle happened.
In an instant, I quickly turned the steering wheel to the right. The shoulder road was open, so we safely moved there until the car stopped. I was a little bit dazed for a moment after the incident, but I quickly gained my composure, driving safely until reaching Manila.
Looking back, the impact could have been fatal if we had crashed into the Mustang car. I was driving too fast to make a sudden stop. I had no time to think about what to do to avoid the crash, but at the exact moment, I quickly turned the steering wheel to the right shoulder and quickly turned the steering wheel to the left, avoiding the off-shoulder. That saved us. Definitely, it was a miracle. It was beyond me.
I surmised that, at the exact moment, an angel of the Lord turned the steering wheel with me to save us. Praise God.
For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. Psalm 91:11 NLT
